User Experience Projects

Usability Audit - SeniorsSenior Usability Audit

Problem/Scope: This project was an assignment for my Accessibility course. The review was limited to 4 pages of the site for this exercise. I was asked to create some sample tasks and do a walk-through based on those tasks to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Challenges/Notes:I was tasked with evaluating a commercial web site based on factors affecting the "senior" (55+) audience, including vision, motor, and cognitive issues that may affect portions of this audience.

My Contribution: This was an individual project.

Expert Review - AC ControlsExpert Review - AC Controls Graphic

Problem/Scope: This project is half expert review of the local display UI for an air conditioner, and half research paper about the limits of working memory. The researched is framed in terms of the UI design for this device.

Challenges/Notes: This review is a little dry, since it was mostly a research paper, however, I think the case study portions have value.

My Contribution:I did the research, wrote the paper and wrote the critique of the UI.

Interviews - Intelligent RefrigeratorInterviews - Intelligent Refrigerator Graphic

Problem/Scope: This was the only project for the Field Research Methods course at Bentley. The assignment was to investigate the feature set for an "intelligent" refrigerator through user research.

Challenges/Notes: Requirements were to develop personas, decide on the right field research methods, create the protocol, conduct interviews, and then make recommendations based on the results. I conducted 4, 45-minute interviews for the data-gathering portion of this project.

My Contribution: I conducted the entire project, including recruiting and interviewing participants.

Usability Test - Digital CameraUsability Test

Problem/Scope: The team was tasked with designing a usability test for a product using Bentley's labs. We identified participants through a screener, recruited them, designed the protocol and sample tasks, and did data analysis to make recommendations.

Challenges/Notes: This was a large-scale effort with multiple tasks tested for eight participants.

My Contribution: This was a group project. Each team member participated throughout the entire process, including taking turns at moderating tests. The group members are listed on the first slide of the PowerPoint presentation.
